Bad news O2 iPhone users it’s first come first served

Not content with telling new users that they’re not going to get an iPhone until after the normal O2 users get their go – which could mean a wait until the end of July (see below) – they’re also letting existing iPhone users fight it out in the queue.

O2 has announced that it will open its stores early on Thursday morning 24 June, at 8.02am, in order to serve existing customers who want to upgrade to the iPhone 4.

The network is not offering any pre-order or reservation service, and phones will be dished out on a “first come, first served” basis, according to a sales assistant at one of its London branches.

This comes as stock is expected to be in limited supply, with the company already telling new customers that they will have to wait until the end of July if they want an iPhone 4 with O2.

On Friday 02 issued the following statement http://shop.o2.co.uk/new-iphone/wheretobuy.html

O2’s response to iPhone stock shortage

iPhone 4 will only be available for existing O2 customers at launch

iPhone stock will be extremely limited in the UK at launch and not everybody who wants one will be able to get one straight away. We want to make sure that our existing customers get priority so until at least the end of July, only existing O2 customers will be able to get an iPhone 4 from us.

Whether you’re an existing O2 mobile customer looking to upgrade, or one of our broadband customers looking to move your mobile to O2, our iPhone stock is reserved exclusively for you.

Where can you buy iPhone 4?

On 24 June, iPhone 4 will be available in O2 shops, as well as Carphone Warehouse, Best Buy, Phones4U and Apple stores.

iPhone 4 will not be available on the o2.co.uk online shop until at least the end of July.

Who can buy iPhone 4?

This exclusive iPhone 4 offer is open to our mobile, mobile broadband, home broadband and home phone customers who have been with us since at least 24 May 2010.

What if I’m not an existing O2 customer?

We’d love you to join O2, however we always try to give our existing customers priority. As soon as we are able to, we will offer iPhone 4 to everyone who wants one on O2.
