O2 are to announce an upgrade deal for iPhone users who want to get hold of the latest iPhone 4.0.
Just moments after Steve Jobs completed the announcement of the device we’ve all been calling “the device that the guy left in the bar”, and that we’ve all seen for the last month on Gizmodo and another 10,000 gadget sites O2 launched their special upgrade deal for in contract customers
The iPhone 4 will be available in the UK on O2 from the 24th June and to make it as easy as possible for O2 customers still in contract to get their hands on a new iPhone, O2 are going to be offering a special upgrade offer, of which “further details will be announced in the coming days.”
To support the launch of iPhone 4, O2 has created http://www.o2.co.uk/iphonelatest a dedicated website for the latest news and updates where customers can hear details ahead of the new iPhone going on sale. If you fill in the email you get a message “The new iPhone 4 uses a micro sim. We may want to send you one ahead of launch so it would be great if we could have your address in advance.” Which seemed a little strange to us. Why would they want to send a sim first?
“Apple has once again raised the bar with the iPhone 4,” said Ronan Dunne, UK Chief Executive of O2. “With 3 years’ experience in selling the iPhone we are well placed to support the new device with the best overall experience, including making it easy for new and existing customers to get their hands one.”
Well they would say that wouldn’t they. O2 are not however going to have the exclusive on the iPhone 4 as it’s also going to be available on Vodafone and Orange (see UPDATEs below).
UK prices for the iPhone haven’t yet been announced but in the US, the iPhone 4 will come in two colours, black and white, and the price is $199 dollars for the 16GB model, and $299 for the 32GB model.
UPDATE – 8/6/10 9.30 am – Vodafone now has a register your interest page at http://shop.vodafone.co.uk/shop/mobile-phone/iphone-4 Orange has very briefly announced that it will be launching the iPhone 4 but has no site yet available. Tesco are silent and Three are also silent.
UPDATE – 9/6/10 Orange site for interest in the iPhone 4 and 3GS (we guess new pricing) is now live at https://interest.orange.co.uk/
