Betting Site PaddyPower has opened a book on the iPhone being recalled. The current odds are

Unfortunately the bet only applies to a total recall for the iPhone 4 and the recall must be “confirmed by Apple to be due to hardware issue relating to antennae.” As Apple are still in complete denial that there is a problem it’s looking like you’re never going to get your money. Also Paddy Power stipulate that the recall has to happen in 2010. So if you bet that they won’t be withdrawn you’ll have to wait until Jan 1 2011 before you can claim your winnings.

However according to reports elsewhere online, Apple may have already tweaked the design of the iPhone 4 to get rid of the signal issue and would only be doing a partial recall to fix the signal problem.

A reader of the gadget website Gizmodo claims that when he returned his iPhone 4, the replacement he received was significantly different from the original edition. Here’s his description of the second iPhone —

“The black [plastic] bezel isn’t as black on the new one. I couldn’t see the proximity sensor at all on the previous iPhone 4, now I can. The stainless steel band on the new phone is less ’steel-y’ and more matte. I’ve also tried to replicate the signal drop and failure. While I can’t say for sure that it is entirely fixed, there is certainly huge improvement.”
