HP Tablet out in 2011

HP have confirmed their webOS tablet for early 2011.

Hewlett-Packard confirmed it will release a webOS-based tablet early next year, adding another forthcoming entrant to the growing tablet market and yet another contender for Apple’s iPad.

While HP has indicated in the past that a tablet product based on Palm’s operating system was in the works, this is the first time the company has given a timeline for the product.

“You’ll see us with a Microsoft product out in the near future, and a webOS-based product in early 2011,” Todd Bradley, executive vice president of the personal systems group division of HP, said on the company’s earnings conference call. Previous reports have referred to the webOS tablet by the code-name “Hurricane.”

HP’s tablet will join Android tablets from PC stalwarts such as ViewSonic, and Asus as well as mobile manufacturers such as Samsung, LG, and Motorola.

The question everyone is asking is will 2011 be too late? Christmas will be long past, and from what we’re hearing everyone plans to get their tablets out pre-2011. Additionally it’s rumoured that Apple have some new iPad products that could see the light of day before the end of 2010. At the very least it’ll be doing a refresh of the iPad in early 2011. So whatever HP are cooking up it’s going to have to be a radical product to make the grade.
