Get ready to start typing at lightning speed. SwiftKey by business startup TouchType has been in beta for the last three months and as of today – 23 September –  it’s gone live on the android market – download here.

By using special Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques SwiftKey claims to be able to predict your next word with such incredible accuracy that a third of suggestions are right first time and usually you won’t need to press more than two letters (see the video above for a demo). It uses advanced error correction, meaning grammar and spelling errors are a thing of the past, and it doesn’t just predict regular words – it learns as you type and remembers how you write. As words and sentences are chosen over time, its special “Fluency” engine creates a dynamic understanding of your writing style to boost the accuracy, fluency and speed of prediction.

In its two month beta phase, the app received over 250,000 downloads, additionally the Fluency technology is also being embedded by a smartphone manufacturer in two forthcoming Android handsets, due for launch in Q4 2010.

Part of the funding £275,000 came from a new investment fund from Octopus Ventures for technology start-ups.
