Creative Labs, are set to launch two new Android tablet devices and add their name to the long list of manufacturers aiming to benefit from the Apple Halo effect.

Creative will be launching two “entertainment” devices, a 7in and a 10in tablet based on the Android OS.

The Android 2.1 Creative ZiiO 10″ comes with a 1,024 x 600 resolution TFT screen, and ships with a stylus as it uses a resistive touch screen. The tablet is powered by a ZiiLABS ZMS-08 processor based on a 1GHz ARM Cortex chip, and is capable of playing 1080p HD content. The 10in model lacks 3G, but has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. Other key features include a front-facing VGA camera, HDMI output and an SD slot allowing an additional 32GB of storage.

Prices for the ZiiO 10″ start at £249.99 for a 8Gb version and £269.99 for a 16Gb version.

The ZiiO 10″ weighs 650g and, at 262mm x 173mm x 13.7mm, is slightly smaller than the ViewSonic ViewPad 10.

The Creative ZiiO 7″, ships with a 480 x 800 resolution TFT resistive display, a stylus and Android 2.1. The tablet uses the same ZiiLABS ZMS-08 processor as the 10in version, and has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity. Other features include HDMI output and a front-facing VGA camera. A micro-SD card allows hot swap with memory found commonly in smartphones.

The ZiiO 7″ is 250g lighter than the ZiiO 10″ at just 400g and measures 207.4mm x 133mm x 13.7mm

The 8Gb ZiiO 7″ starts at £199.99 and goes up to £219.99 for the 16Gb model.

Preloaded applications include a music player, video player, photo viewer and Android audio application and status control bar.

As you would expect from a business that was built on audio the devices both feature state of the art audio, they both come with Creative’s X-Fi audio system and users will be able to link to Creative’s range of wireless speakers.
