Mobile usage up by 7% on September

Opera’s State of the Mobile Web Report for October 2010 shows a continuing upwards trend in mobile usage. In October 2010, Opera Mini had over 76.3 million users, a 7.1% increase from September 2010 and more than 92% compared to October 2009. Opera Mini users viewed over 41.6 billion pages in October 2010 up by 12.6% on September and up 142% since October 2009.

UK

The UK is 11th largest market in the Opera report and once again Google is still the biggest website for mobile users, page views are up on September we now view 363 users per page compared to 335 in September up 8% month on month and up 88% on October 2009.

The top ten sites list has lost Pocketgear.com altogether – it was number 7 last month – and both Newsnow and Opera have moved up in the running and eBay are back in the frame, we fully expect them to rise next month and a few retails sites to appear as we hit the Christmas season.

The handset top ten is almost exactly the same as last month with a few swapped positions.

US

Over in the US page growth since October 2009 has actually gone down by -8% and are significantly down on September 2010 where page views were 331 where as October showed just 175 pages per user, however unique users are up a more impressive 27% for the same period. We suspect that there’s some big problems with the page view stats as a drop of 53% month on month seems a little extreme.
