M-commerce grows by 100% in Germany and US

Mobile commerce hit it’s stride in 2010 with an increase in the number of visits to Amazon.com towards the end of the year, compared to earlier in 2010.

According to the latest Opera’s State of the Mobile Web Report which views trends for December 2010, there was an increase in mobile commerce with United States and Germany showing good growth. Shoppers in these countries doubled their number of page views to Amazon.com towards the end of the year, with mobile views hitting 7-8% of their total traffic in Dec 2010 compared to 2-4% at the start of 2010.

The sharp increase of shopping over the last year increased even more at the end of the year, towards the traditional holiday shopping frenzy. This is especially visible in the daily number of visits to Amazon.com during the U.S. shopping weekend starting with “Black Friday” and ending with “Cyber Monday”. In both monthly and daily numbers, the increase is significant and shows the willingness to shop and browse online stores even on the go.

However, while the US and Germany grew by 100% the worldwide trend is still low and hardly increased over the year which does not make great reading.

Elsewhere the report finds that mobile is still showing very keen growth in the UK and the US. Page views are up 94.9% over December 2009, and unique-users are up by 34.4 %. In the US  page views are up 80.5% over December 2009, and unique-users are up by 17.3 %
