WeTab*, a German tablet computer start-up, is set to launch “the first shipped MeeGo-based tablet in the world” next week, offering the WeTab product initially in its home market, with availability through retailer Media Markt.
The company is a partner of Intel, one of the main proponents of the platform, and the planned shipping was confirmed at this week’s Intel Developer Forum 2010.
The WeTab will be powered by a 1.66GHz Intel Atom processor, and in addition to native Linux apps and MeeGo software, will support apps written for Android or Adobe Air. It also includes a browser with HTML5, Adobe Flash and Java support.
Two versions will be available:
WeTab – a €449 (£376) 16GB (extendable to 32Gb with SHDC card), WLAN
WeTab 3G – €569 (£477) 32GB+, WLAN, 3G, GPS, Full HD 1080p through HDMI
