Apple’s App Store hits 10 BILLION downloads and 350K apps are now on the app store

Just a few days after kicking off its online counter, Apple’s app store has officially hit the 10 billion mark.

Yes, only last week Apple launched it’s count down to 10 Billion downloads and now they’ve done it, the counter started off at around 9,900 million downloads and in less than a week they did 100 million downloads, in fact in less than a year they’ve done the even more impressive figure of 7 billion downloads.

They’ve also let slip in the press release announcing the 10 billion downloads that the total number of iPhone and iPad apps is now 350,000, with 60,000 native iPad apps.

The lucky person who downloaded the 10 billionth app is Gail Davis of Orpington, Kent and as the winner of the App Store Countdown to 10 Billion Apps, Gail Davis will receive a $10,000 iTunes Gift Card.

“With more than 10 billion apps downloaded in just two and a half years — a staggering seven billion apps in the last year alone — the App Store has surpassed our wildest dreams”, said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The App Store has revolutionised how software is created, distributed, discovered and sold. While others try to copy the App Store, it continues to offer developers and customers the most innovative experience on the planet”.

We can’t wait for the $20,000 for the next big target. Roll on 20 billion, at this rate they should be there in about 15-17 months time or even quicker if they carry on selling iPads and iPhones at the current exponential rate.

Drinks are on Gail, hang on we know a Gail in Orpington!!!
