iPad to be on sale in Dixons/Currys/PC World

The iPad comes to Dixon's Group on Friday

If you want an iPad on Friday your best bet is to start camping outside one of the 139 Dixons Group stores, as you’ll have no luck at an Apple store, and you’re way out of luck if you’ve ordered online.

According to the Times and confirmed on the Register the iPad will go on sale at Apple stores and on an “exclusive” at Dixons Group stores – which includes PC  World, Dixons Travel shops (you’ll need to be at an airport or at the Eurotunnel at Folkestone to take advantage of most of these see below), and in Currys from 9am on Friday (28 May).

According to the Times DSGi has got a 60-day exclusive to sell the the iPad in 139 stores in the UK, although it will only be on a first-come first-served basis as you can only pre-order at Apple’s own shops, and most of them are probably already sold.

You could also try Best Buy at Thurrock, which is the only other lucky retailer confirmed to have iPads on Friday.

A spokesman for DSGi told the Register: “We can confirm that the information in The Times article is correct and Apple will be announcing their distribution plans in the next few days.”

Anyone ordering an iPad through Apple’s website will likely have to wait too – it was warning that boxes would be shipping 7 June, the site now says simply “June”

Dixons Travel are probably your best chance of pinning down an iPad on Friday so here’s the list. You can find a Dixons Travel store in Heathrow T5 (both A and B), T4, T3 and T1; in Gatwick South (ground and first floor) and North, in Stansted and Luton. In the north you will find us in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Newcastle. We also have stores in Manchester 1, 2 and 3, in East Midlands and Birmingham. We also have a store in the passenger terminal of the Eurotunnel in Folkestone.

UPDATE – 9/6/10 iPads are selling out at Dixons http://www.bmob.co.uk/2010/06/09/dixons-almost-sold-out-of-ipads/
